What to Expect Your First Time Using a Taxidermist

March 4, 2026

It Starts Before the Shot

The best time to think about taxidermy is before you pull the trigger. Knowing how to field dress and cool your animal properly sets the whole process up for success. Read our caping guide if you're planning a shoulder mount this season.

The Consultation

Your first contact with us will be a quick conversation — in person, by phone, or through the contact form. We'll talk through the species, what kind of mount you want, and the condition of your animal. From there we'll give you a quote and schedule a drop-off.

Drop-Off Day

Bring your animal (cooled or frozen), any reference photos of poses or expressions you like, and your deposit. We'll walk you through the paperwork, confirm the details, and get you a timeline estimate. The whole drop-off usually takes 15–30 minutes.

The Wait

This is the hardest part for most people — and the most misunderstood. Taxidermy takes time. Hides need to be tanned, forms need to be fitted, and finishing work is meticulous. Rushing any step compromises the result. We'll reach out with updates and will contact you the moment your mount is ready.

Pickup

When your mount is done, you'll get a call or message. Come in, settle the remaining balance, and take home something built to last decades. Most clients are genuinely surprised by how lifelike the finished piece looks — that reaction never gets old.

Have questions before you drop off? Reach out anytime. We'd rather over-communicate than have you walk in with the wrong expectations.
